I am happy to announce the release of Truncate v.2.3, a plugin for jQuery. I let this plugin simmer for awhile, and I thank each of you that sent me emails regarding a bug that went unfixed for some time. That bug is no longer an issue with this release, and I have added an important enhancement. The plugin will now truncate an HTML string, and preserve the formatting.
You can download the plugin and find examples at http://www.reindel.com/truncate.
Refresh Detroit was kind enough to invite me to speak on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 6:30 - 8:00PM. You can find all the details on the Refresh Detroit Web site. I appreciate the opportunity to share some of what I have learned, and I hope it turns out to be a good presentation and discussion.
The session is titled “JavaScript Library Techniques, Tips and Tricks”, and I will be covering some of what I wrote about in a post by the same title at JavaScript Ant. I will probably focus the majority of the time on the importance of a namespace in your JavaScript, and the benefits of “overloading” your functions.
Cody Lindley posted a great article, XHR Concepts: A Comprehensive Guide, over at JavaScript Ant today. There is a lot of meat to that post, and I enjoyed reading it. I have two articles as well this month, JavaScript Library Techniques, Tips and Tricks, and Make Old JavaScript New Again. Cody has done a superb job with the Web site, and I hope you enjoy what has been offered up so far — please provide feedback — it is helpful in generating new ideas for upcoming articles. Enjoy!
Back in August, 2007, when I redesigned for the first time, the primary purpose was to get something up that was not a community template. Although the design was my own, I was not completely happy with the final result. Since then I have been tinkering with the design you now see before you. Of course, I have not been working on it consistently. I put it down for three months while I pursued other interests, but very recently picked it back up again. Continue reading.
Some of you may have noticed that I missed Monday’s link farm for the week. I will be toying with the idea of doing double duty on a single day, or moving the links to Monday and Wednesday instead. However, in an attempt to keep things going strong, I need your links! If you have (or know of) a blog or Web site that focuses on science and technology advancements, Internet news and trends, and the do-it-yourself culture, please add the link in the comments. I am really interested in a diverse and eclectic mix. Thanks!
Late in 2007, Cody Lindley (of jQuery ThickBox fame) contacted me. He was looking for content authors in an effort to produce a high-quality repository of modern JavaScript tutorials and information. I agreed, and on January 1, 2008, JavaScript Ant was born. Cody did an excellent job with the design and format, and I look forward to writing for him in the near future.

No link farm today. Have a Happy New Year and a safe holiday!
